The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports about 3,900 Better Homes and Gardens Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Sprays have been recalled due to the presence of a dangerous – though rare – bacteria, Burkholderia pseudomallei. The products were sold in stores and online by Walmart. Burkholderia pseudomallei was found in spray bottles and is a bacterium that causes melioidosis.

Melioidosis can be challenging to diagnosis and has the potential to be fatal. So far, there have been two deaths from illness related to the bacteria which was traced back to the recalled product.

The recalled products are:

  • 84140411420 Better Homes and Gardens Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones Lavender & Chamomile
  • 84140411421 Better Homes and Gardens Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones Lemon and Mandarin

If you have purchased any of the above-mentioned aroma therapy bottles, do not open the package. If you have used it already, immediately discontinue use.

Do not throw away the bottle. Seal the bottle in a plastic Ziplock bag and place in a cardboard box. Immediately wash your hands and any and all surfaces, blankets, clothes, etc. that may have been sprayed by the aromatherapy. Bring the box to the nearest Walmart for safe disposal and a full refund.
