Summer is grilling season, but a recent nationwide recall serves as an important reminder that defective consumer products can cause serious injuries when safety features fail.
On July 9, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of approximately 12,660 Cuisinart Propel+ Four Burner 3-in-1 Gas Grills (Model CGG-6331) after receiving reports that the tempered glass window in the pizza oven can shatter during use, creating a significant laceration hazard. According to the CPSC, the manufacturer received 37 reports of shattered glass and one report of a fire before issuing the recall.
What Products Are Included in the Recall?
The recall applies to the Cuisinart Propel+ Four Burner 3-in-1 Gas Grill, model CGG-6331, which features:
A four-burner gas grill
Flat-top griddle
Side burner
Built-in pizza oven with a tempered glass viewing window
The grills were sold at Lowe’s, Walmart, Cuisinart.com, and other retailers between December 2024 and May 2026 for approximately $500 to $750.
Why Is This Recall So Concerning?
Tempered glass is designed to withstand high temperatures, but when it fails unexpectedly, it can break into hundreds of sharp fragments. If the glass shatters while someone is cooking, nearby individuals may suffer:
Deep cuts and lacerations
Eye injuries
Facial injuries
Burns from exposure to hot cooking surfaces or escaping heat
Because grilling often involves families and guests gathered nearby, multiple people could be exposed to danger if a product fails unexpectedly.
What Should Consumers Do?
If you own a Cuisinart Propel+ Four Burner 3-in-1 Gas Grill, you should stop using it immediately.
Consumers should verify whether their grill is included in the recall by checking the model number and serial number. If the grill is affected, the manufacturer is instructing owners to safely remove the tempered glass window, submit photographs through its recall website, and request a refund or reimbursement if eligible.
A Recall Does Not Erase Responsibility
Product recalls are intended to protect consumers from further harm, but they do not eliminate a manufacturer’s legal responsibility if a defective product causes injury.
Manufacturers have a duty to design, manufacture, and market products that are reasonably safe for their intended use. When a product contains a dangerous defect that causes injury, consumers may have the right to pursue a product liability claim to recover compensation for:
Medical expenses
Lost wages
Pain and suffering
Permanent disability or disfigurement
Other damages resulting from the injury
Even if a recall is issued after an injury occurs, the injured consumer may still have legal rights.
Product Liability Claims in Massachusetts
Massachusetts consumers rely on manufacturers to ensure the products they purchase are safe. Unfortunately, defects involving grills, power tools, appliances, children’s products, and other household items continue to result in preventable injuries every year.
Under Massachusetts law, manufacturers and sellers may be held responsible when a defective product causes injury. Product liability claims are often based on a breach of the implied warranty of merchantability under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 106, Section 2-314, which requires that products sold to consumers be reasonably fit for their ordinary and intended use. Depending on the circumstances, injured consumers may also have claims based on negligence if a manufacturer or other responsible party failed to exercise reasonable care in the design, manufacture, testing, or warning of potential dangers associated with a product.
These cases often require extensive investigation to determine whether the injury resulted from a design defect, manufacturing defect, or inadequate warnings or instructions. Preserving the product, documenting the incident, and seeking legal guidance as soon as possible can be critical to protecting your claim and preserving important evidence.
