Hammond’s Candies recalls their Salted Caramel Cookies.
Due to a packaging mishap that resulted in a lack of adequate warning about the potential peanuts contained in the cookies. According to the FDA, any food product that may potentially contain peanuts has to have the words “May Contain Peanuts” printed on the packaging. These words were accidentally left off the five-ounce boxes of Hammond’s Candies Salted Caramel cookies that were distributed nationwide throughout retail stores, as well as sent out via mail orders.
The affected cookies are packaged in printed cardstock box with UPC 6 91355 89889 5.
The item number is CK15008, and the items have a sticker on the lower-right corner of the back of the box that states, “Best By: 06/29/2023A.” If you purchased a box of these cookies, you could return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Over 4.6 million adults in the United States are reported to have a peanut allergy.
Often considered one of the fastest growing and deadliest allergies in recent history. Peanut allergies are responsible for more deaths from anaphylaxis than any other food allergy. Anaphylaxis is a very dangerous allergic reaction, with common signs and symptoms including respiratory issues, skin problems (itchiness, hives, redness), cardiovascular problems, and stomach pain. Recalls are always posted on the FDA website and are important to follow if you or someone close to you has food allergies. Small packaging errors, such as this one, could be potentially life-threatening if the wrong individual unknowingly purchases these cookies.
