ozark trail tabletop 1-burner butane camping stoveOn November 26, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a major recall of about 201,000 Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves—model BG2247A1—sold exclusively at Walmart nationwide and online. The recall was issued because the stove can explode or catch fire, posing a serious burn and fire hazard to consumers.

What Happened?

The recalled stove is a dark green, tabletop butane camping stove with an orange “Ozark Trail” logo and the model number printed on a gray label inside the fuel compartment. The units were sold at Walmart stores and on Walmart.com from March 2023 through October 2025 for $8–$45.

According to the recall notice, manufacturer China Window Industry Co., Ltd. received 26 reports of the stove exploding or catching fire. Of those, 16 reports included injuries such as second-degree burns.

Injuries and Hazards

The primary risk with these camping stoves stems from sudden explosion or flame flare-ups. These kinds of malfunctions can occur during normal use—such as while cooking or heating food outdoors—and can result in:

  • Second-degree burns to the hands, arms, face, or body
  • Fire exposure at campsites, potentially igniting gear, tents, or surrounding areas
  • Emotional trauma and long-term scarring from burn injuries
  • Additional injuries from reflexive actions during sudden flame events (e.g., falls)

Second-degree burns are particularly serious: they damage both the outer and deeper layers of skin, can be very painful, and often require medical treatment such as wound care, antibiotics, and in severe cases, skin grafts.

Given the explosive hazard, these incidents are not just simple accidents—they can lead to substantial medical expenses, prolonged recovery, and disruption to daily life.

Immediate Steps for Consumers

If you own this stove, the CPSC and Walmart recommend that you stop using it immediately and return it to any Walmart store for a full refund. You can also call Walmart at 800-925-6278 or visit the Walmart recall site for more information.

Product defects—especially those involving fuel, fire, and pressure systems—can transform a simple outdoor activity into a life-altering injury. When manufacturers and retailers fail to ensure basic safety, injured consumers deserve accountability and compensation.
