In 2015, Depuy Orthopaedics, Inc., the manufacturer of the ASR XL Acetabular Hip System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System reached a settlement agreement with selected plaintiffs’ counsel to compensate patients who have been implanted with defective hips requiring corrective surgery. The 2015 Settlement Agreement compensates patients who had surgery to replace ASR hip systems between August 31, 2013 and February 15, 2017.
On June 21, 2017, DePuy extended the deadline for enrollment in the settlement program to July 19, 2017.
As discussed on SUGARMAN’s DePuy ASR Hip System page, flawed ASR hip systems were implanted in patients across the country starting in 2005. The implants were subsequently recalled in 2010.
