Marianne C. LeBlanc, Principal

Marianne concentrates in all aspects of serious personal injury litigation, including liquor liability, premises liability, and medical malpractice (especially breast cancer misdiagnoses). A trial attorney with a proven record of success in the courtroom, her advocacy skills draw on her commitment to making a difference both for her clients and to the community at large.

In addition to her practice, Marianne has provided leadership to a wide variety of legal, civic, and community organizations. She is the current president of the Women’s Bar Foundation and a past president of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, and chaired the Civil Litigation Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association from 2001 to 2002. She has published numerous articles, and presents frequently at MCLE and the Massachusetts Bar Association, among other venues.

Marianne joined Sugarman in 1993 and has been a principal of the firm since 1999.

Selected Cases

Obstetrical malpractice,  Settlement for failure to deliver baby after abnormal biophysical profile in mother whose morbid obesity limited testing ability.

Misread mammogram,  Settlement against radiologist for failure to properly read a mammogram and diagnose breast cancer in a mother of four young children.

Liver transplant cases,  Jury verdict and settlement against transplant surgeon for wrongful deaths as a result of negligent liver transplant surgery.

Injuries during laparoscopic surgery,  Verdict in Quincy District Court against a gynecologist as a result of injuries sustained by a patient during laparoscopic surgery.

Failure to diagnose hyperbilirubinemia in newborn,  Settlement for bilateral hearing loss in newborn where lab test showed elevated levels but lab and physicians failed to act.

Christopher v. Father’s Huddle Cafe, Inc. et al., 57 Mass. App. Ct. 217 (2003),  Verdict, including punitive damages, against the bar and its management company for failure to provide adequate security, resulting in the off-premises death of a patron. The verdict was upheld on appeal.

Assault to a woman in bar,  Verdict for a woman hit in the face by a professional hockey player in a Boston nightclub after a verbal altercation between the two. The woman sustained bruising and psychological trauma.
