Stephen K. Sugarman

Stephen concentrates in the areas of medical malpracticeproduct liability, motor vehicle tortsconstruction site accidentsexplosion and fire cases, and general liability cases. He is a member of numerous bar organizations where he has served on civil litigation, trial and administration of justice committees. Stephen also regularly lectures at MCLE and other continuing legal education programs.

Stephen joined Sugarman as an associate in 1999 and became a principal in 2007.

Currently, Stephen is investigating and pursuing claims with his partner, Jodi M. Petrucelli, on behalf of patients who were fitted with defective DePuy artificial hips.  For more information about these claims, click here.

Union tunnel worker injured on job,  Settlement for worker injured when auger hooked piece of rebar struck worker in leg causing tibial plateau fracture. Settlement with auger operator’s employer.

School bus crash,  Settlement in a negligence and product liability case against a transportation company and bus manufacturer following the deaths of four middle school students on a school trip in Canada.

Obstetrical malpractice by doctor and nurse midwife,  Settlement for the death of baby shortly after birth. The doctor negligently used Pitocin during labor and left the mother in the care of a midwife.

Industrial plant explosion,  Settlement against a Springfield company and a chemical manufacturer following a resin-powder explosion that caused the death of three foundry workers and seriously injured nine others.

Defective aerial lift control design,  Settlement for an electrical apprentice working on the big dig. Worker suffered an abdominal crush injury and an esophageal tear because of a malfunction with the bucket controls.

Bicyclist killed in intersection collision with SUV,  Settlement with driver of SUV for death of a 61-year-old man riding his bicycle.
